Foundation FAQs

This page aims to provide you with information about how to access careers advice as well as providing you with information about other sources of support and information about careers.

In your Trust your Foundation Programme Manager should be able to provide you with information about local staff who are trained in careers guidance. You may also wish to consider undertaking a ‘taster’ in your possible career. Please ask about this in your Trust or review the latest London Guidance on the LPMDE website.

There are a number of other online resources available to Foundation Doctors wanting to explore their career options.

The NHS medical careers website is funded by the Department of Health and is aimed at all UK postgraduate doctors in training and is free to use.

The site has a dedicated section for foundation doctors which will help you to plan your medical career by using a four-stage career planning model. The site contains information, interactive self-evaluation tools, materials, videos and other resources.
