Foundation FAQs

We monitor and ensure your Education and Training with the following methods:

ePortfolio

All Foundation Doctors are registered on ePortfolio where learning opportunities are linked to curriculum outcomes. This forms the basis of a regular assessment system between the trainee and their supervisors

More information can be found on our Good Practice for Assessments page.

Educational Supervisor

The educational supervisor is the professional responsible for making sure that you receive appropriate training and experience and who decides whether individual placements have been completed successfully. This will usually be the Consultant from your first post. A Guide for Foundation Doctors on Supervision can be downloaded here

The Trust will inform you of your educational supervisor at the beginning of the year, when you will also receive your induction. You will be allocated an educational supervisor for the entire year and a clinical supervisor for each placement.

You can read more about their role on our Educational Supervisor pages.

Clinical Supervisor

This is the Consultant directly supervising your clinical work in each of the 4 month posts that you occupy. They will delegate to their Medical team and other healtcare professionals as they see fit.
